One step to Independence

Today Niki is going on her first excursion with her school mates, which also marks the first without her "sometimes overly-protective" parents accompanying her. I actually drove by her school again before going to the office to see whether I can catch a glimpse of her boarding the bus.. but alas I think I was a wee bit late.. which leads me to this post.
I'm sure she'll enjoy the outing and she's always had a bit of the independent streak in her. Just goes to show that my baby is indeed growing up .. and maybe a bit too fast for us.. like I said in one of my past posts perhaps it's not her who's having issues ..it's us.
The below article well is quite enlightening.. read on.
Yikes, it just rained here .. I hope they have umbrellas with them so that the can safely shade the kids ....
A Child's Independence, the Third Year
The first half of the third year may remain difficult for you and your child as far as issues of control and dependence are concerned. Although your child's language and self-care skills are more advanced, in some ways your child continues to feel like a tightrope walker, occasionally teetering with uncertainty over what she can and cannot do. Try to recognize your child's need for independence. By promoting independence along with emotional support, parents can help their children through this stage. An extra cuddle or more lavish praise for good behavior helps to counteract some of the normal negative behavior.
Control and Discipline
As your child grows older there are more activities you can do together, but also more potential conflicts. One management technique that works quite well with toddlers is the use of praise. To help your child develop a positive self-image, you should encourage and delight in your child's new accomplishments and achievements. Praise ("That's good! I like that block tower."), hugs, and kisses are important ingredients in promoting a good self-image. At two and three years of age, a child's self-esteem-how she feels about herself-often reflects her perception of her parents' opinions of her. Interest in and enjoyment of your child's play set the tone for a healthy self-concept.One of the most difficult jobs parents have is setting reasonable limits for their children. Letting your child know what's expected, what's tolerable, and what's unacceptable is a long-term process that continues well into the teenage years.
As early as in the first year, for example, you set some limits by not letting your child stick her fingers into the electrical outlets. You can defuse some potential conflicts by rearranging the environment so you don't have to worry about your child's hurting herself, breaking your valuable vase, or eating a poisonous plant.
Childproofing the major living quarters in your house allows your child to safely explore many interesting and different objects.Of course, changing the environment does not take care of those times when a direct confrontation is necessary. It helps to quickly and adeptly address the situation. Tell your child what you don't like about what she is doing. Give her a simple reason why, for example, pulling the tail on the cat hurts the cat.
Parents don't need to use more than one or two sentences of explanation. Ask the child to stop. If that doesn't work, put the child on a chair for a few minutes either in the same room with you or in a different room for a time-out. After the allotted time has elapsed, you can then talk about what happened.Later in the day, but not immediately afterward, be sure to let your child know you still love her by giving her a hug and a kiss.
On a particularly bad day, you may even want to engage her in a very special time just for the two of you. The earlier you begin to set aside a special chair or place to be used for thinking about unacceptable behavior, the sooner your child learns that some behaviors are just not acceptable. In the early years, parents take on the roles of care-giver, teacher, and playmate. Creating an emotionally supportive environment is essential for your child to become independent yet aware of her parents' love and acceptance.
On occasion, behavioral extremes are acceptable for two year olds. As a regular pattern, however, the child who is always out of control or overly compliant is telling you something. These are warning signals that suggest you should take a good, hard look at your disciplining techniques. Ask yourself: Are my methods so loose that the boundaries of acceptable and unacceptable behaviors are unclear? Am I so rigid in setting limits that my child is afraid to upset me by resisting my controls? Am I providing enough time for relaxed activities and play with my child?
Learning how to discipline a child takes time and practice.By the end of the third year, with increased growth, maturity, and confidence, your child becomes willing to relinquish some of her insistence on being independent. She may even give up some of her executive independence ("I want to do it myself!") for your love and affection. She obtains great pleasure from praise and attention. Her participation in such body management activities as feeding, toilet training, and dressing becomes a matter of routine. Although many three-year-old children continue to have high activity levels, their activity begins to be more directed, with a far less frenetic quality. The secure three year old may allow you to help her set limits.
This new stage has been called the stage of volitional dependence because the child's needs can now be brought under her control. Your child is less impulsive and more manageable; she understands an occasional explanation of rules -- and actually follows the rules, too. For example, when you are working in one room, you may no longer have to worry about leaving your child to play in another, but instead can trust her not to misbehave.
Feelings and Emotions
Of particular importance, but sometimes overlooked, is talking to your children about how they feel.
By the age of three, children experience a wide range of emotions: They feel afraid, mad, sad, and glad. While children may not have exactly the same meanings for these feelings that adults do, children can learn to label and identify good and bad feelings. Don't underestimate their capacity for understanding emotions and feelings.Parents can help their children develop a language for expressing and dealing with feelings by giving the feelings names. While doing so, parents have a responsibility to manage their own feelings to help children deal with theirs. Sometimes, our own childhood experiences creep into how we handle emotions with our children.
All of us have trouble with some feelings. For instance, difficulties with such feelings as anger and aggression may spill into our parenting. If we cannot tolerate angry feelings, we might try to prevent our children from displaying anger by saying "That's no reason to be angry!" when in fact a child may have good reason to be angry. Through the use of play, you can provide children with some emotional avenues for anger, fear, and anxiety.
Self-Concept
Between their second and third birthdays, most children become fairly competent language users.
They readily use the personal pronouns "I," "me," and "mine," particularly to defend ownership of their toys and possessions. They have great difficulty letting anyone else play with something that is theirs.Around this time, your toddler can refer to himself by his own name. Sometimes, when playing with dolls or superheroes, your toddler may reenact earlier events. He may assign different roles to the dolls.
If you sit down and play directly with your toddler, you can get a glimpse of the inner workings of his mind. This glimpse may be both delightful and unnerving, since you may observe firsthand how your child views your parenting style. Many parents have heard their sweet little boy harshly send his favorite stuffed animal to his room because it didn't behave.
As your child becomes more independent, she will feel more comfortable being on her own.By three years of age, your child has a good sense of "me" and "you" and of "self" versus "nonself." With better cognitive capacities and a wider repertoire of experiences, the three year old has internalized memories of the significant people in his life -- his parents. As his sense of self grows, a child's personality represents more of what he will be like as he grows older. He readily displays his preferences and dislikes in how he interacts with the world; for example, some children already prefer very physical activities, while others choose quiet, sedentary play.
Aggression and Fighting.
Fighting usually centers on wanting to have a toy someone else has. Aggression is a normal part of growing up and may be related to our survival instincts. Most children are fairly aggressive when defending their belongings and themselves. There are no easy answers for how to handle excessive aggression. But it certainly doesn't make sense to the child or to the parent to handle aggression with aggression. Imagine this scenario: Two sisters are fighting over a toy. One parent comes in, yells at them to stop fighting, and hits one of them because the child won't give the toy back. What does this teach the children? There's quite a mixed message here -- it's all right to fight and to hit but only if you are bigger and more powerful than your adversary.Parental handling does influence how aggressive a child will be.
Children in families where physical violence, such as beating (as opposed to a mild slap on the wrist or a gentle spank on the bottom), hitting, or spanking, is used as punishment generally turn out to be more aggressive than other children. The least aggressive children come from families that are nonpunitive, nonpermissive, and nonrejecting. The parents in such families are consistent in their handling of aggression. They don't use harsh physical punishment or unnecessarily harsh language. They set firm and clear limits about what they expect of their children, and they are accepting of their children.
Consistency is important in whatever intervention technique you use to deal with your child's aggression. A useful technique is to remove the child from the fight and isolate her for a few minutes. Quick handling of the situation, before the fighting gets out of hand, helps. Once your two year old can talk, ask her to talk about how she feels or what she wants. Doing so helps her learn to express herself verbally instead of physically.
Sometimes, providing your child with an outlet for her pent-up energy helps reduce the level of her aggression. Just as with adults, active physical exercise helps release the tension and reduce the level of stress. Imaginative play also helps her work through aggressive tendencies. Parents can capitalize on the child's imagination to help work out conflicts.ImaginationIt is especially wondrous and exciting to watch imagination develop in your child. Through the windows of your child's play and the talking he does to himself, the pictures he draws, and the stories he tells, you can actually follow your child, the little movie director, as he casts a set of characters into their various roles.
Fantasy develops along with your child's more sophisticated knowledge of the world, although he cannot yet totally differentiate fantasy from reality. Some children have such great imaginations that they tell the most unbelievable stories -- and sometimes get in trouble for doing so. Many children have imaginary friends. Sometimes these creations become scapegoats for the child's own behavior.
When the child does something wrong, he may say the imaginary friend was actually the culprit. Usually, the presence of an imaginary friend is just a sign of a healthy, imaginative child. But imaginary friends can become too powerful: They can interfere with your child's ability to accept responsibility, their presence can exclude other friends, and they can do all your child's talking.
Luckily, this doesn't happen very often. If you're concerned about your child's imaginary companion, you may want to consult a professional.TelevisionPresidential commissions have confirmed the profound effects of excessive television violence on children's aggressive behavior. These reports indicate that a steady diet of violent television programming is related to an increase in children's fighting. If you do not want to have a physically aggressive child, you may consider monitoring your child's television viewing habits.
One way to do this is to count the number of aggressive acts in your child's Saturday morning cartoons. Then you can decide if you would like her to continue to watch them.Cartoon-watching also seems to negatively impact children's activity levels. While they sit and stare at the television set, they appear zombie-like: Afterward, these same children act overexcited, running helter-skelter with little direction or content in their play. In all likelihood, a steady diet of superheroes and monsters can have negative consequences. Also, because two and three year olds are unable to distinguish between fantasy and reality, the evil warriors and monsters may seem real to them, and the characters in some of these daytime shows can come back to haunt toddlers at nighttime, manifesting as nightmares or fear of the dark. To make matters worse, it is often difficult to tell where the cartoons end and the commercials begin.
However, television, in moderation, can be used for positive ends as well. Good educational programs, such as Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, have much to teach your toddler. But always remember that too much television viewing, even of high-quality programs, can lead to an unhealthy, sedentary lifestyle. And even the best programs can't match the benefits of real experiences with real people.Multiple

By three years of age, your child is likely to have a number of relationships with people other than his parents. He may have a favorite babysitter or just a good friend.
He prefers to play with children his own age rather than playing with you, although he still enjoys and needs you. He and his friends can spend a long time at play without any fighting and with some sharing of toys.As your child's world expands -- for example, when he goes to a child care center or preschool -- the influences on your child's self-esteem also include new people's attitudes toward him. It's essential for you to provide him with the security he needs so he can go out and explore his surroundings. While your child may be quite ready to go off to preschool, once in a while he may slip back to his less-sure former self and not want to leave your side.
These are normal separation reactions. His going to preschool is a big emotional step for both of you. Here is an example of a three year old boy we knew. It was the first week of preschool. Every day the boy's mother walked him to the classroom, gave him a hug and a kiss, and said goodbye. Each time, the boy cried uncontrollably, refusing to take his jacket off for the whole day. Knowingly, the teachers respected the child's need to hold onto his jacket. For this child, removing his jacket meant that he was going to stay at this place without his mother. In a way, he was unsure that he was ready for all this independence.
Both mother and child benefitted from the teachers' warm assurance that everything would be all right. Gradually, the teachers enticed the child into the fun the others were having. Some preschools are quite aware of children's difficulties with separation and build this into their programs by slowly introducing children into the classroom. For some children, preschool is the first time they are on their own. It is, on the one hand, an obvious milestone, but on the other hand, it is just one of the many steps that take your child gradually toward independence. As a newborn your child is completely dependent on you for everything from food to clothes to companionship.
As your child grows physically, he also grows mentally and becomes more aware of himself and the people around him. It can sometimes be painful and sometimes joyous, but every child matures and becomes more independent. While no two children are alike, you now have a general idea of what you can expect during this tumultuous time.

We bummed!

We bummed around last weekend not doing anything much at all.

Why? Because there's no need to have your weekend clogged with activities that's why.

Anyways finally, we took Niki to Summit to go watch Ratatouille .. she's been asking for so long but before that Vicky had to go put out a fire (literally!!) a few doors from ours coz the grass and bushes caught fire. No one's living there and to top it off its was really hot and dry on Sat, so I guess it caught fire, pretty scary coz heavy smoke was billowing all over the place, and Vicky went to put out the fire with a neighbour's reaaalllly long hose whilst I called the Fire Dept. Thank God they came just in time and hosed everything down.

Then all of us scamperred as fast as we can out the door and were on our way to Summit for the 2.30pm show. But before that we went and tried Hartz Chicken Buffet and lots of stuffs in the buffet line happened to be chicken! We were all famished especially Vicky the Fireman. And being the hot blooded man that he is, he wants chicken! And lo and behold Hartz Chicken just happened to just opened their doors there. They're not really cheap coz, for us adults it was like RM18.90 per pax and for the chipmunk it's RM5.25 (kids below 3ft eat for RM5.25) and they've got a wall measurement tape there just in case. Well, I measured the girl and she's now all of 2' 7"!! Small in stature perhaps but big on utter adorability, that one! So we (ahem!) maybe I only lar stuffed our faces with the glorious amount of food available .. they got me at the fizzy fountain actually.. I love fizzy fountains, sue me I'm easily contented. While Vicky and Niki tucked in the variety of chicken they had there, grilled chicken, fried chicken, casserole chicken, and etc. Bet we'll be seeing chicken for a couple of days lar.

Then we window shopped and walked abit aimlessly so that the lunch we had could digest abit before heading upstairs to GSC for the show. Coz it was puasa time, there was no lines at all..which is such a huge relief!

Here's some pix that says it all!
Sunday was movie marathon say watch The Invisible (which was not bad for a teeny bopper slash rebellious anger kind) and Whisper (ala The Omen but with the slightly dishevelled but still dishy Josh Holloway). Had dinner at home coz Niki's daddy whipped up his special Mushroom Alfredo sauce with Penne pasta, which was beyond yum!
So that was the weekend that was, which was us bumming! ... and it was good.. :-)

My Little Dreamer

I woke Niki up for school this morning at 7.30am; and had to get her ready by 8.15am so that she be at school at 8.30am. Why am I stressing about the time?? Coz already got reminders from her teacher to send her to school early. So I've got to bulk up or face the wrath of Niki's pre-school teachers! So I choose to be on time instead.
I woke the little poppet, by telling her to wake up coz she's got concert practice to which she replied "teacher told Niki to stop dreaming" .. So my kid is a dreamer and will zone off when she's on stage, I expressed my worry to her daddy who had this simple solution ... the kid is not even three yet, so let's not drill or bog her down with rules and whatnot..instead let her enjoy her 15 minute of fame her way..
I thought to myself, on how right this sounds, I am becoming one of those pushy parents whom I use to cringe whenever I see them reprimanding their kids in public for not performing up to par..but what is the par? Why is there a par, and there's certainly no need to measure our kids against what we think is right or trying to relive our childhood through our children, that's just so wrong. So I made a silent promise to myself to not conform to the peer pressure of over pushing our kids. So what if she zone out, according to her dad ..the least we could do is catch the footage on video and use it to embarass her once she's all grown up.. now that sounds like fun!

Under the weather

It's official, all three of the Kumars has been strucked down with the dreaded flu bug. It's sniffles, and hankies galore. On a positive for me at least is that I can abstain from eating for a bit and hopefully the extra pounds can just drop miraculously. Yeah, wishful thinking but what's life without hope as quoted by Charlize Theron in Aeon Flux!

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree I guess and loved the salon experience and requested for a "princess cut" .. priceless I tell you that girl. Her hairstylist's name is Apple.

Our mischevious Niki

Niki's class teacher told me that the class was too quiet the whole of last week when she was absent from school when I went to pick her up last evening *raises eyebrow* .. hhhmmm .. and she added that no one called her "oh .. teacher, oh my teacher" since Niki is the only
one who calls her like that .. such a drama queen I tell you. And I don't mean the teacher .. I mean the tot!

"gene simmons" shots

Getting back to school.

Niki was at home the whole of last week due to the flu bug. Actually she was all better by Saturday but we only took her out yesterday. Went to Burger King's .. actually Nix wanted to go shopping but her parents wanted to go eating, since it was 2 vs 1 we went with the majority vote heeheehee..

Then we went home and fooled around with the camera before watching a movie.

Well here's the bunch of them.

I just finished reading Ranee's blog, and how Dhiren's going to school already etc..and Nee, I hear you, and over here it's pretty that much paperwork to go thru as well... there's so many that I asked the principal to pass it over the weekend so that I can slowly go thru 'em and write it all down, since "the computerization era" I haven't actually done much real writing so my hand were super sakit once I finished all of it!

This morning, sent Niki off to school, she was pretty lazy after one week of home schooling, so thank God the principal was there to take her into her class *phew*

So back to the grind, the boss is coming in soon so better get my a** back to work!

Have a wonderful Monday y'all!

Mid-Autumn aka Mooncake festival is coming

How time flies, time and time again I use this phrase, I feel as if it was only yesterday I ate mooncakes from Tai Thong and now the time is coming again. Ammu bought Niki a Mickey lantern so we're gonna take it for a little dry-run later this evening. For the kiddults I got 'em paper lanterns, so all of us can have a go!

But gotta wrap up early lo..coz now is the Happy Ghost Festival as well .. being Chinese gotta respect that lo..

For those who're "bananas" like I, here's some history on how the Mooncake festival came about, like all Chinese tales, its quite romantic.

Originally named the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Moon Festival is one of the most important holidays celebrated by Chinese communities around the world. Let us first explore the creation of mooncakes.
Mooncakes earned their popularity during the
Yuan Dynasty (1200 A.D.- 1368 A.D) when, as legends say, the Mongols who had established the Yuan Dynasty were too oppressive, and were overthrown by the Chinese with the help of this simple dessert.

Since Mongols did not eat mooncakes, the Chinese took advantage of this cultural difference and planned a revolt against them. Leaders of the revolts distributed mooncakes, under the pretense of celebrating the emperor's longevity, to other Chinese people. The mooncakes held secret messages baked within the skin, informing people to revolt on the 15th of the 8th moon, also the Mid Autumn festival. The rebellion was successful and mooncakes were forever kept a national tradition of China.

"When the moon is full, mankind is one" -- In China, the full moon has always represented the gatherings of friends and family. Thus, Mid-Autumn Festival is a time for family reunions. On this night, families will go together to scenic spots and parks for moon appreciation parties, and eating mooncakes.

Traditionally, Moon Cake Festival is celebrated on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month in observance of the bountiful Autumn harvest. This year, Mid Autumn Festival is celebrated on September 18. Although old rituals are no longer followed, families continue to gather for a day to relax and eat moon cakes. Upon this occasion, the legend of the Moon Goddess, CHANG-O, is often told to children.

Once upon a time there was a famous archer, Hou Yi, who with his arrows was able to slay mankind’s worst enemies, ferocious beasts that inhabited the earth. Yi was married to Chang-O, a beautiful but inquisitive woman who had been an attendant of the queen mother of the west before her marriage. Now at this time, there were 10 suns that took turns circling the earth-one every 10 days. One day, all 10 of the orbs circled, together, causing the earth’s surface to burn and threatening mankind. The wise emperor of China summoned Yi and commanded him to kill but one of the suns. This Yi proceeded to do. Upon the completion of his task, Yi was rewarded with a pill, the elixir of life, and advised: "make no haste to swallow this pill, but first prepare yourself with prayer and fasting for a year." Being a wise man, Yi took the pill home and hid it under a rafter while he began healing his spirit, In the midst of this, Yi was summoned again by the emperor.

While her husband was gone, Chang-O noticed a beam of white light beckoning from the rafter. She followed it and a fragrant perfume, discovered the pill and swallowed it. Immediately, Chang-O found she could fly. Just at that moment her husband returned home, realize what had happened and began to reprimand his wife. Chang-O flew out the window into the sky. Yi sped after her, bow in hand, and the pursuit continued halfway across the heavens. Finally, Yi had to return to the earth because of the force of the wind.

His wife reached the moon and there, breathless, she coughed and part of the pill fell from her mouth. Now, the hare was already on the moon and Chang-O commanded the animal to take pestle and mortar and pound another pill so that she return to earth and her husband. The hare is still pounding.

As for Yi, he built himself a palace in the sun as Yang (the sun and the male principle), Chang-O as Yin (the moon and the female principle).

Once a year, on the 15th day of the full moon, Yi visits his wife. That is why the moon is full and beautiful on that night.

The Greens and the Lights

lights abound in KK

the "si-fu" at the range

Merdeka is in four days' time.

Independant Malaysia is turning the big 5-0.
KK is all decked out in a dazzling array of lights come night time.
One type of which looked rather like a *inside joke* ______ pointer
Anyways, I'm feeling super patriotic and feel blessed to be living in M'sia. This feeling doesn't come very often but I think we should start appreciating our motherland .. though the govt still sucks but that's another whole subject all together.

The whole country's gearing up for the celebration this year, and there's a tinge of excitement in the air, a feeling that I have not felt for a very long time. Since it's making a comeback I think it's a good sign for our country..

Sunday was a super lazy day, woke at 10-ish.

Went for breakfast at Jin Man's, ate saito fishball noodles ..which was yummy..*slurp*

Went to the driving range for a bit with Vicky then off I went for my pedi appointment at Refranc's

After pedi which was 2.5 hours later, Vicky was still at the range ...met him back there again and promptly harrassed him into finishing so that we can go eat..it was already four pm so had pastries and cakes at secret recipe..

Then went for an uber relaxing hairwash @ Refranc's ..wanted to follow up with him & her facials but thalgo's was already closed by then..

Vicky went to Joy Luck while I went home to relax abit..

Texted him at 7-ish informing him that I am craving betty's nyonya laksa..and went to betty's for exactly that..

Then watched tv and fell asleep in front of it...

It goes without saying that ..we had the most wonderfully slow Sunday...*heavenly*

Weekend is Here!

Yesterday was a headache gone actually, completed an ISO recertification audit! It was a huge deal and now tra-la-la, all I have to do is wait for my fee! I have been slaving on that particular project for the past half month and was intensified by last minute work two days ago! Apart from my day job, I also freelance for ISO consultation -- if any of you are looking for one for your company look no further.

Next month I have to conduct a training and some consultation work and hopefully wrap up for this year and concentrate more on my day job!

Anyways tra-la-la..and woop-dee-do, the weekend's 'ere and I'm looking forward to some well deserved r & r, beginning with a pedi & mani tomorrow..heeheehee...after I send Niki off to Aunty Barbara's. Aunty Barbara is treating Niki to the Royal London Circus which is in town tomorrow evening, thanks Aunty Barbara! And so Mummy's gonna go do some pampering :-)

Have a good one y'all!!

Like I was saying

..I am still reeling from the fact that Niki is schooling already.
..Niki sang for me & her daddy, yesterday, with crystal clear pronunciation;
One two buckle my shoe
Three four shut the door
Five six pick up stick
Seven eight lay them straight
Nine ten begin again.
Can also sing head & shoulders knees and toes; if she the mood hits her.
Ok back to work.
Lunch was good, too good, now feeling a wee bit sleepy, wonderful .. and I have tons to do

Songs & Rhymes

After attending school for 2 months, Niki is coming along wonderfully.
And being curious and inquisitive, she loves to learn, I'm still reeling from the fact that she's now school going.
Ok my boss is calling for lunch, gotta continue this later then.

The princess and I

Niki and her Mummy

Last Monday, we went for an impromptu birthday party for Devan who turns one. Devan is a chindian kid in every sense of the word coz he converses in Cantonese, coz he lives in HK. His version of Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star is in Cantonese as well. Niki and I were more than amused. Coz the only version she & I know is the England one.

Anyways, I don't have many a photo with Niki and hubby dearest took one of us. Don't mind the chubby cheeks it was that time of the month plus I had two helpings of the vegetarian food that thet were serving. Kononlah don't want to eat meat coz wanna diet but makan twice the usual amount instead. I'll never win the battle of the bulge I tell you!

So How 'Bout It, Ma

Niki the Water baby

Niki's been consistently asking us to send her for swim classes. And I mean every word when I say consistent.

Monday morning, "Mummy I wanna go swimming classes"
Me, "Ok baby"

Tuesday morning, "I wanna go swimming classes"
Me, "Ok well see baby"

It went on Wednesday and Thursday as well

And today, "Ma, send me to swimming classes"
Me, "You really want swim classes?"
She, "Yes, Mummy and I wanna wear my swimming suit"
Me, "Ok, baby, Mummy'll put out the tub for you tomorrow and you can go splishy splashy ok, now go to school first"
She, "Ok mummy, thank you!"

..and when I sent her to school today, I brought along a tube of smarties for her to share out with her little buddies as well, and the girl shouted "Thank you, Mummy before running into her school" .. Too sweet, can pengsan!

Well back to the topic of swimming, what I'm gonna do tomorrow is, put out the big water tub for her in the garden with lukewarm water and her floaties, and she can splash there till she shrivel up -- as for classes, well she'll have to turn 3 first, that's in 3 months' time ..then we'll send her for classes at the Kota Permai Club -- maybe!

What type are you?

Met Linda from Poppy Pet House today during breakfast at my usual haunt. Got into a conversation about what type of dog will be suitable since she's having a sale for toy dogs at RM999 inclusive of its certificate at her shop. Those on sale are shih tzu by the way. And she suggested that a poodle will be a good choice since even though they're hairy they do not shed apparently. So what do you think people, a poodle? Oh yeah, and poodles are extremely loyal and worships the ground their owners walk on.. heeheehee.
The pic above is that of a mini poodle, and nope they don't have to look like those in TV with the afro look instead their fur can be styled into a lamb look for easier maintenance. Cute huh?

The kid's all grown up.

Yesterday, we got Niki's school pic which was taken with the rest of her classmates. Niki was sitting in the middle in the first row, and we got a taste of how much the kid has grown. Ho-hum feels like only yesterday she was a baby and now baby's all grown and have made a bunch of friends in school. And yup' she's a popular kid to boot, even those kids in K1 and K2 (the 5 to 6 year olds, knows her by name!)
Me & Vicky had a chat with the school pricipal to just gauge how Niki's doing in school, bottomline is all is good and she's adapting really well and is quite independant. And today, I sopke to her class teacher as well to make sure that she's adapting well, she is, actually and well all this comments just makes all feel warm and fuzzy inside.
*sniff*

Fun In The Sun

My two lovelies sliding, here's a blow by blow as they splish splash around the kiddy pool

Saturday night, dinner at Fei Chai Seafood, between 4 of us ate 3.25kg crabs..dang!

Kemang beach, more than enough pictures of Niki running around in the buff (which I'm not gonna put up), Vicky seen here posing the poser pose and Ammu and I soaking up the lurve all around

We were in PD last weekend for a makan angin short break kinda getaway to PD Tiara. Ate, napped, walked on the Kemang Beach, ate loads of tropical fruits and basicly hung out with Vicky's parents & sis. Here's some pix, I know I've shared so little pictures so I'm making up for it right now.

A little R & R

Gonna head for some much needed R & R but poor me will be "working" from a laptop from the said holiday spot. It's been ages since we went up to PD, gonna head out tomorrow for 2 days. Ahh.. fun in the sun for Niki and her Daddy!

Marching that makes you go .. Awwww..

Today as we sent Niki to school, yeah today both me & Vicky sent her to school, just to make a fuss..and we were late so had to pack her breakfast on the go, she requested for sausages so I made her those and cut them into itty bitty cube size for her to chow later. It was 8.45am and they have a rehersal for the Merdeka Lantern festival that the school is gonna organize in conjunction with our national day.. and the kids will be marching and singing to that song.. that starts ... Tanggal 57... a really upbeat patriotic song.
And Niki and her class will be in the march to.. Niki's been practicing her march at home but to see it live with the rest of the kids .. well that's one of those things that makes you go ...aaawwww ain't that cute. So that's exactly how we felt.. so proud of our leet Nik.

Love It

Was on retail therapy recently, and found this gem of a store called Love It (there's on at Ikano and one at Subang Parade), no doubt there's no missoni or pucci draped on its rack but the place is stocked instead with cute and really cheap outfits, go find one today and enjoysome retail therapy.

Spanking tech!

I got a spanking new handphone about 5 weeks or so back. It's the Alcatel with lots of bling features, and I have pictures of Niki innit, but heck I can't get it to download, ^%$& technology! I'm so frustrated right now coz my blog has got no photos! Dang the thang! Ai sei try again la .. la dee da ..

Hanging with the girls

Wow-wee the weekend just zoomed by, Ammu & my sis temaned me & Niki through the weekend, and when girls get together, there's only one thing on our agenda, on Saturday combed Subang Parade and yesterday me, Niki & Aunty Daph did Curve and Ikano. Niki really luurrvveess shopping, she's well on her way to becoming a shopaholic soon, and no thanks to her Mummy as well.
Niki despite being a bit tired trooped on, like a real shopaholic would, and in my daughter I'm beginning to see buds of a fashionista as well, she chooses her own duds y'know. And have a cute sense of style. Daddy's pocket gonna get very light when this one grows up.

Playing catch-up

My friend Karen called me a few days back to meet up, see, I'm lucky I have friends like her who really make an effort to catch up. Karen was my college buddy a long long time ago when I took up Hotel Management, and really apart from looking better as every year passes, she has not changed a bit, still funny, warm with a wonderful sense of Malaysian humour.
Well not that much has changed actually, except that these days Karen & Dennis totes their their 7 month old Kaylie for our late lunch at Friday's @ The Curve. Just a few months back I blogged that Karen welcomed her bundle of joy into the world and swoosh, seven months has passed and Kaylie now has 4 teeth already and well on her way to taking her first baby steps. The girl is adorable I tell you, nice and chubby with cute doe eyes reminience of Karen's own.
So we caught up with our lives over scrumptious food, and had an absolutely wonderful time together. Kaylie was ever nice and stayed alert and happy throughout our long lunch, and it was Niki who got antsy, and wanted to go shopping. We of course took her once we said our goodbyes to Karen, Dennis and Kaylie.
On the way into the Curve, Niki saw Baskins and forced her Daddy to get her ice-cream. She finished it all by herself and Mommy and Daddy didn't get any, well we got to wipe the ice-cream off her face though. Big bully that one I tell you!

Niki vs. Daddy

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree I tell you.
More so, in the case of Niki and her Daddy.
Those two had a battle of "let's see who's the stubborn one" yesterday.
Each one with their own stand, and refusing to backdown.
Me, yeah I'm stuck with the role of a mediator, and mediated a truce between the two, Niki finally gave in and said sorry to her Daddy and her Daddy also gave in and accepted her apology with a hug.
Finally, the " I don't want to friend you" war was over .. after 40 minutes!
Today, it was raining, and the girl didn't want to wake up for school, but when she was up she already buddy-buddy with her Daddy, and the supremely stubborn duo were the best of friends again.

The kindy report

Came back to the office half past two, had a 45 min chat with Niki's kindy principal. Very enlightening, talked about kiddies and stuff, and I guess being a parent today is not as straight-forward as it was back in our day. There's a lot involved and though I may not always know the right thing to do for Niki, of course we'll try our best to provide the best we can for her.
Anyways back to the kindy report, well I found out how they put 30 kids to bed at the same time :-) and saw Niki taking her afternoon nap together with some of her little friends, mental note : to get a bigger blankie for her, well she's not as small as we thought she was! Niki's doing very well at school actually and has her own little gang, ie. Nicholas aka Mohawk Boy (he's got a funky mohawak cut) and Shiu Ling, a cute little girl with a pixie cut. The gang plays together and hang together, according to the principal she does mix with the other kids pretty well but likes the twosome the best!
And after 3 weeks' Niki has learnt how to share, play together, and knows that she can't always get her way.
Ok, gotta go do some work, later!

I'm so Behind

On my blogging, I've meaning to blog but didn't seem to have the time these past few days. I think it's because of work, yeah I'm gonna blame it on work.
Anyways in about half an hour time I'm gonna drop by Niki's kindy for a surprise visit, just to check up on her and how's she's doing in school. Her teacher said that's she doing fine but I'm still curious. Actually I'm curious on how she gets on with her classmates, how she interacts and of course how she's doing the mass napping thing. I mean, c'mon how do they get a whole bunch of 30-odd kids below 6 to take their nap all at the same time, that's an accomplishment, ain't it?
So I'll be off soon and I'll report once I get back.
See ya!

Autobots roll out!

After all the super hype about the movie we finally went and saw it! and OMG it does live up to all the hype! We love it! I loved it! I like Bumblebee coz he is just so darn cute and not to mention he's canary yellow so he kinda remind me of "Tweety" my jeep!
Also we need to bring Niki to go watch Harry Potter, coz she's been asking and we've been ignoring her requests, cannot ignore much longer coz she can be persistent! Seriously, I've never seen a more persistent kid and she's got this elephant memory thing that's kinda scary and irritating at the same time.
Heheheh! and Niki's Mommy & Daddy got to go out last Saturday night and relive past glories, we went to Modesto's and Orange @ Hartamas, it was fun and ended the night with a whopper jr, so it was perfect!
We went and fetched her from Vicky's parent's place yesterday afternoon and boy was the kid angry actually there's a better term than angry which can be initialled as f-g p-d but this blog has a pg-13 tag so no obsenities, hence we shall contend with really angry! Well managed to get back to her good books by watching kipper and pingu 3x on the way home!

Niki's 2 years and 8 months

Our baby is now 2 years & 8 months old.

Our baby can now say "Niki don't want to friend, Daddy or Mummy!"in an indignant tone :-)
Here's two pix of our darling wearing a very girly blue dress with matching a bucket cap before her play date with her cousins Darsha, Lavin & Shaarvin.

Mondays!

Is always blue, nothing's ever gonna change that!

Grouchy me sent Niki to school at 8.25am and went to the office,

at 9.30 - 9.45 had nasi lemak and iced coffee, and stomach's not feeling too good now.

On a brighter note, we went school shooping for Niki last Saturday, got her a new lime green keroppi backpack and spongebob water bottle for school ( I simply, utterly love both of these!!!)and a spanking new pair of jeans among other things. Niw if only I can find her the perfect pair of summer thongs in lime green as well.

I wanna sleep!

It's Sunday, and its pouring outside.
Which is quite nice coz most Sundays are sunny days, but today, mmmmm..
the gang's staying at home, Daddy's cooking and we're having a movie marathon,
watches The Pathfinder (gore! slaughter! and more gore!), snoozefest The Last Time (a Micheal Keaton porn at best!) and another one with Adam Sandler & Don Cheadle which was quite good but I can't remember the title.
Niki's taking a late evening nap now.
While her Daddy and I are just chilling and discussing how much we've aged ... cough, splutter I mean .. changed since having Niki! And yeah, I feel like snuggling up with the blankie and snoozing for a bit, too! zzzzzzzzzzzz ..

Nikita at School

Here's some things we learnt about Niki while she's at school:
1) She has 2 friends that we know of by name : Shiu Ling and Nicholas
2) She loves to pay the slides more than the sand box
3) She loves the music and movement classes
4) She recognizes some of her school mates even though they were from different classes and they recognizes her too
5) She can tell her teacher she needs to wee-wee or ka-ka (the same does not apply to me!)
6) The only time she has on diapers in school is when she's sleeping!
7) Drinks more h2o then she does at home (again this I contribute to peer pressure)
8) Her class is currently practising to put on a show for the school's annual concert in October
9) She sits next to the teacher in class
10) She sits on the first row when they are on the floor
Listing all this makes me so proud of my Niki!

Harry Potter and Transformers has landed!

Two movies of gigantic proportion and so little time, but..must make time, gonna hit the screens this weekend, can't wait. Heard so much hype about the Transformers movie, gonna wait to be blown away.
On a totally unrelated note, JK Rowling said that the Order of the Phoenix was her favourite book, to me it was the longest!!

Tis' the season to be flu-ey

ai sei .. the whole gang is down with flu, its in season now.
nose all congested, throat all dry and scratchy *cough*
however my mind's clear .. yet don't know what to write coz having writer's block.
one thing tho remember I was telling about Niki's toilet training well, it got jeapordized during the weekend, guess we're to blame! Need to have better follow-through, scout's honour to follow-through with her training this weekend!
until then gonna nurse all of us back to health!

BBQ at Mohan's

Bbq nite on the 7th, when people are getting married, we were busy making merry and stuffing our faces at Mohan's pre-house warming party, yeah we're like that.. any excuse for a drinking session, alkie to the end I guess! Vicky made one heckuva marinated chicken ala mediterranean which was oh so good!

Just some updates here;
1) Niki fell from the lazy boy chair whilst there
2) Vicky drank from a "vase"
3) Vicky has like 1 & 3/4 piece of chicken wing only coz he was busy grilling for us, I on the other hand I had like 3 pieces!
4) And yeah, Vicky and I celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary ;-) there were literally fire works!!

Chicken Pox jab!

Niki's going for her chicken pox jab today, since she's already going to school, we feel its good to ensure that she's protected from the dreaded poxies. Anyways both Vicky & I have not gotten our poxies yet..instead we took the painless way out .. vaccination! Good or bad I don't know la. Now I wonder if the vaccination has an expiry date, coz we took the jab ages ago! Well gonna ask the good doctor this evening.

Toilet-training

Here's a grey subject, when's the right time to start?
How do you start?
With a lot of what-if's in between.
A couple of months back we walked into Mothercare and found this really cute potty helper, I loved the rubber duck design and so did Niki. Niki calls it Toilet Duck (yeah, like the cleaner ha ha!). And so we told Niki to let us know when she wants to go for her shee-shee and her ka-ka but it has not worked out like we imagined, because she has likened Toilet Duck to more of a toy than a facility and so uses it as and when she likes.
So before I go off track again..ok so you guys know that Niki is going to pre-kindy now, right well the thing is .. we think that her teacher has toilet trained her with an 80% success rate, after 2 days. The thing is all the kids in her class are not wearing diapers and Niki is the only one when we enrolled her 2 days back, I'm guessing peer pressure is at work here?!!?
Yesterday night I put Niki in her diapers as usual for bed but it was pretty dry this morning, instead when she woke up she asked us to put her on her Toilet Duck and she shee-sheed! To us that's a small miracle there!
So I think Niki is about 80% toilet trained as of today!

Niki in pre-Kindy

We are so proud of our Niki, she started her pre-kindy yesterday. Today we sent her to school in her uniform at 8.15am, they've got breakfast ready for all the kiddies, and at the same time we feel really nostalgic, our daughter is a big girl now. And she talks about her teacher a lot, we on the other hand are feeling abit left out right now :-( ..after work gonna go pick her up from school.
Niki, Mummy and Daddy are so proud of you.
To Ranee, Vic and the kids, Happy 4th of July!
